Here is the process i use for cleaning the k&n and bmc filters.
i have been using this across all my bikes and cars over 20 years.

the air filter can be cleaned at home by yourself with the cleaning kit.
the cleaning kit also can be used from either of the brands. no real difference. both do exactly the same job.

a clean air intake makes the bikes and cars run much better. it is easily one of the most ignored maintenance.. most look at only the exterior. but do make it a point to clean the air filter regularly. its an easy task.
iv been using the knfilters for over 20 years now .
KN / bmc both are excellent in the job they do.
