IET Wiring Regulations - 18th Edition

The online webinar was organised by 𝐈𝐄𝐓 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 (www.theiet.lk) on 27th May 2020.

The 18th Edition of The IET Wiring Regulation, which is also known as BS 7671:2018, launched on 2nd July 2018. It is now a requirement that all electrical installations designed after 1st January 2019 comply with BS 7671:2018, 18th Edition. This Regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, also additions and alterations to existing installations.

The 18th Edition has updated standards in line with the latest advances in technology, including updates to technical data. These updates will have a direct impact on making installations safer. In addition, the 18th Edition contains a new appendix on energy efficiency, reflecting the country’s need to reduce the overall consumption of energy. It is essential for all professional working in the sector to be up to date with these latest industry standard. This lecturer highlights the major changes in the IET Wiring Regulation 18th Edition.

Dr. Asanka S. Rodrigo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moaratuwa, currently holding the position of Director General of Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority on secondment basis. He obtained his BSc Eng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering with First Class honors and MSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Moratuwa and PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Rodrigo has involved with many projects in Sri Lanka and overseas in various capacities. He has also been with Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a Power and Energy Sector Expert for many projects.

Dr. Rodrigo is the President of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Sri Lankan section and senior member of IEEE. So far, he has supervised more than 45 Master of Science degrees, 2 Master of Philosophy degrees and one PhD degree, authored 1 book and 2 book chapters and published over 40 national and international technical papers.
