USDC, a digital dollar that works globally, can help unlock the full economic potential of humanity and help connect the 2 billion adults who don't have access to a bank account to new opportunities.

"Today, people everywhere have access to smartphones. Ideas can cross the world in a matter of seconds. And our economies are connected like never before. But almost 2 billion people don't have access to something as simple as a bank account. The physical infrastructure just isn't in place. And in many countries, the currency isn't worth the paper it is printed on. This is not only bad for global equity, it's bad for business.

That's 2 billion potential customers who might love your product or service. 2 billion potential collaborators to help expand your business around the world. 2 billion budding entrepreneurs with ideas they can't get off the ground.

What we need is better access globally to basic financial services. That's where USDC comes in. A digital dollar that works around the world with all the stability and security of the dollar built to be instantly accessible 24-7, practically for free. Armed with little more than a smartphone and a digital wallet, anyone, anywhere can participate directly in the global economy. Leaping over traditional brick and mortar banking and the ATM machine, we activate the full economic potential of humanity for the first time.

Much of the world has been preoccupied with looking at the risks to traditional banking if crypto innovations succeed. But what are the risks if we do nothing? What are the risks if we fail? What are the risks if 2.7 billion people remain systemically unbanked or underbanked, living in the financial shadows?

Technology is not a cure for solving all of the world's problems, but it can often show us where the world is falling short. I grew up poor in the poorest part of the United States. I was the first to get through high school or college within my family, and the very basic human rights and equities of financial access are personal.

To me, the opportunity here is much bigger than money. It's actually about re-architecting at internet scale the type of economic relationships we can have with one another. Circle has chosen to open up this technology for the first time for the entire planet to build on in a way that is open source and that allows people to be the new entrepreneurs of this ecosystem. So the whole world is open for business. Access to money is a human right, and we have not as a people had a wave of innovation that allowed everyone to be on a level playing field, to create, collaborate and transact on a global scale. Until now."
