in this video you will not only see how sturdy the door can be after a reinforcement, but also the rayador should be properly balanced as a result of additional weight or for any particular garage door torsion spring change. This type of wind damage is very common in the San Bernardino area of Southern California

The part is called a strut and is not standard equipment for new garage doors so you will need to add it later. The problem is that when you add them, the door gets to heavy and will fall when released from the opener arm with the emergency release, so you will need a new spring to counter balance the additional weight. Each strutt weighes about 12.5 lbs so when you add 2, that is close to 30 lbs. That would make the door come down fast when you let go of you are opening the door by hand.

This whole process is now being packaged together for those who need to save their door or don't want to have to buy a whole need garage door. That makes a lot of sense because the repair will be well under half the price of a new door and twice as strong as a result of the reinforcements.

Hope this all helps you to understand the cause, effect and cure to garage door wind damage.
