How to Breed Peppers

Описание к видео How to Breed Peppers

Correction from the video: The anthers should be left to dry for around 24 hours, maybe less. Also, the peppers seeds can be removed from the peppers once they are ripe and allowed to dry for a week, then the seeds can be stored. I often freeze my vegetable seeds.
My camera is not great for small up-close objects, but I hope this video still helps to show how to breed peppers. Some peppers crosses are easier done than others, so do not be too disappointed if one cross does not do very well. Keep trying. I have had some pepper pods full of seeds, while others of a different cross had very few seeds. I have even had some pods with no seeds at all in them. This is known as parthenocarpic fruit. Sometimes I will get seeds that do not want to sprout very easily, if at all. So, it is not necessarily as easy as it seems. When sprouting peppers from seed though, beware of a disease known as damp-off. This is when the seedlings rot at the base of the plant. This is often promoted by soil that constantly stays very wet. So do not over water them, but also do not let them dry out either. It is somewhat of a balancing act.
Thanks to my cousin Andrew for filming this for me.
