Rokurokubi ~ Iris, Flower of Violence ~ Live at Zu Warehouse (12/08/21)

This song is about a child fairy called Iris.
Every winter, the queen of the fairies, who is a controlling & dictatorial leader, hibernates in an underground tomb filled with foxgloves. In the holes of the foxglove flowers, offerings are left for the queen, candles are lit and incense is burned. The queen's hibernation tomb was inspired by the fairy funeral scene from the John Anster Fitzgerald painting.
All winter the queen slumbers in this chamber. When the spring comes, the queen stirs, wakes up and causes havoc and misery across fairyland.
The child fairy Iris is like Joan of Arc. She starts receiving visions from angels, and the willow tree whispers to her, telling her to steal into the underground tomb and kill the fairy queen, to free fairyland from oppression.
