This is one of the oldest instrument in the world, the instrument is of Arabian descent named after the Arabian Zummarah. Through the tradings in 19th century is when and how it got in kenyan coast, Zanzibar, Tanzania. Its Indian Ocean coast provided historically important ports by which goods and musical instruments from Arabian and Asian traders have entered the continent for many centuries. The Swahili people adopted the instrument by playing and named it Nzumari, Nzomari, Nzumara, Ndzumari, Ndumar, Somari.
