10 News First caught up with Clint Kimmons, a professional surfer and lifeguard, who has shared some videos of the surf in Queensland over the past few days.

Clint explained how the lead-up to Tropical Cyclone Alfred has produced "absolutely magic" waves for surfers, with some of the biggest swells he has ever seen on the Gold Coast.

To experience these types of swells, surfers usually have to travel to locations like Hawaii, Portugal, and Northern California, so they are feeling lucky to have these conditions right on their doorstep.

He also emphasised the importance of safety while out there.

“Whilst it can appear reckless to some, we experienced surfers and a lot of us out there are actually lifeguards. We have high-tech rescue equipment, we have phones, some people have EPIRBs. We have specialist safety equipment like inflatable life jackets that are designed for surfing these types of waves,” he said.
