This is the third part of my 'how to make wood grips' series. In this part I detail the drilling of the grip screw holes, staining of the wood and the final coats of either 'varnish' or 'french polish'.

Fitting and drilling for the grip screws is a VERY difficult thing to do, so take special care with the depth of the drill hole from the face side, only go as deep as the screw heads are thick. I warn you if you drill too deep and go straight through the grip, your screws will not hold and you best then throw the grips away.
For the finishing you do not have to stain the wood if you feel it does not require it, as some timbers are very nice as is, such as the Black Walnut or Maple. Though i dont say it in the video the French polish is best for a deeper luster to the wood but will need to be redone every so often. The varnish is good for a tough lasting finish but will not have such a nice look.

When using stains, dye's, laquers or varnishes please wear gloves and apply in a well ventilated area for your own health and protection ;-)
