From time to time you will have a terrible lesson plan. Usually the teacher writes in shorthand or code and it's hard to follow.

Always get to school early. With the younger grades, seek out the other teachers on the grade level to help fill in the gaps. They will be happy to assist.

For the younger grades always have sub tricks. I have a background in theatre training and have done it professionally with children. I know I can build in a theatre lesson.

If you're good at science, you can create a special lesson introducing the rock cycle.

In Middle School, High School, the students can usually help you figure out what they should be doing. In higher grades you repeat the classes, you can put together a better lesson plan with the help of your morning students and use the rest of the day.

If you've arrived early, you can talk to the vice principal. They will call the teacher and get clarification for you.
