St. Kevin's Hospital - Abandoned Mental Asylum (Cork, Ireland)

Описание к видео St. Kevin's Hospital - Abandoned Mental Asylum (Cork, Ireland)

St. Kevin's Hospital stands conspicuously on a hill high above Cork City, Ireland. Founded in the 1840s. it served as an insane asylum to treat people who were the victims of illness, abandonment or general misfortune.

The Asylum has a troubling history with reports of abuse including patients being housed all day without activities as well as inadequate sanitary facilities. The Asylum was even once described as a "Chapter of Horrors".

The complex consists of several buildings including dormitories, a hospital, a chapel and the Asylum itself - each building was closed at a different point in time but the Asylum, the last such building to close, was shuttered for good in 2002.

The complex is owned by the Irish Health Service Executive (HSE) which has defended its "rigorous security" at the site (I call bullshit on that one).

The Asylum caught fire in 2017 gutting the building.
