Springtime Swarmers: What You Need to Know!

Описание к видео Springtime Swarmers: What You Need to Know!

Spring means flowers, short sleeves, and fresh air. But it can also mean flying termites!

Also known as spring swarmers, these pests can invade your home, creating an expensive problem. But if you know what to look for and act quickly when you spot them, you could ward off pricey repairs down the road.

What to watch for:

• The most obvious sign of termites is a no-brainer: insects swarming in a big flying formation. Pay attention to where they’re flying: Drywood termites generally swarm in the morning and fly toward sunlight. They’re searching for a mate to start new colonies!
• Look for discarded wings. Swarmers shed their four equal-length wings after mating.
• Watch for mud tunnels, the size of a pencil or so, from the ground to your home. They might appear on drywall or along the floors.
• Swarmers also leave behind droppings that look like salt and pepper or multicolored coffee grounds. Look for these near wood trims, doorways, inside or outside windows, the sides of your garage doors, or any exterior wall.
• Also check subterranean areas and attics for signs of swarmers.

If you spot any of these signs, call a trusted professional to treat your property right away. Quick action is critical to limit the damage.

When you speak with a professional, ask about non-traditional treatments that are friendlier for the environment, children, and pets. Also ask about preventive options to give you peace of mind, long-term.
