In 1942 the "Strategic Services Transmitter-Receiver Model 1" or SSTR-1 was developed by the Communications Branch of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) as the first-ever spy radio set of OSS, which was used extensively during the Second World War. This training film was produced for OSS operatives to learn how to use this brand new spy gadget.

During the introduction of the film, it says: "those who take great risks to find out what the enemy is doing what he is planning to do - the knowledge which shapes the destiny of the war - have great need of the finest communication equipment science can produce. To meet the special needs of secrecy, portability, and reliability, the Communications Branch, Office of Strategic Services, developed SSTR-1, a one-man transmitter-receiver, light, compact, and durable. This picture is made for those operators upon whose training and skill depends the success and efficiency of SSTR-1 in the field."

The US National Archives describe this declassified video as:

Explains compactness and ease of concealment, and outlines operations in detail: selection of electrical outlet, battery, or combination of both as power unit; antenna, assembly parts, installation, frequency determination and receiver operation; parts installation, attachment of crystal equipment and transmitter operation.
