Hughes took over as Ider coach in 1998 and led the Lady Hornets’ transition to a fastpitch team, the first in DeKalb County, in 1999.

Under Hughes, Ider has been a fastpitch power, winning three state championships (2006, ’08 and ’09) to go along with four state runner-up finishes and two third-place showings.
