“Zartir Nazelis” is an old Armenian tagh by Paghdasar Dpir (17th-18th centuries), later transformed through the ethnographic compilation by Komitas Vardapet. This new version of this folk masterpiece takes on a deep, mystic, and cinematic atmosphere through the meticulous arrangement. Traditional Armenian instruments weave an ethereal symphony, inviting listeners into a realm of enchantment. With added Armenian lyrics, the piece transcends into a linguistic and emotional tapestry.
There is an interesting story behind the creation of this composition. This work, nearly lost to obscurity, came to my attention through a delightful coincidence. In 2019, during a concert dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Komitas Vardapet in Istanbul, a Turkish rendition of a Komitas composition caught my ear. The music was so inspiring that I set myself the goal of arranging and presenting it with an Armenian text and approach.
This composition is created with the aim to know and preserve Armenian Cultural Heritage.
