There are many disparities in the African American community and when it comes to issues such as mental health and substance use disorders, it is no different. African Americans are more likely to be sent to prison than to be offered options such as treatment or rehab when arrested for drug related crimes. 6.9% of African Americans have a substance use disorder. There are marked differences in the experiences of African Americans recovering from drugs and alcohol.
