The blude-red rose at Yule may blaw,

Chorus and first two verses from Hastie MS, where Burns indicates that “The chorus is set to the first part of the tune, which just suits it when once play’d or sung over.” Text to verses 3–4 is from The Scots Musical Museum (Volume. 2, 1787, #182), whose indolent musical editor Stephen Clarke ignored Burns's direction and printed the second verse as a chorus.
