INXS was one of those Aussie bands from the 80s that were just world-beating pop rock titans, but that nobody much remembers any more. They broke through around the world with a handful of hit songs, but their deep album cuts from earlier in their career were better, I reckon. That's usually the way of it, though. They were one of those bands that were just everywhere during the mid 1980s, and got to the point, for me at least, of oversaturation. That happened with a lot with the musical monoculture of radio and MTV (and MuchMusic in Canada) back in those days -- if a band got big, you just couldn't avoid hearing them all the damn time. I guess that still happens today, but I spent the 2010s not hearing a single uuuuhh let's say Beyonce song, for example, and likewise the 2020s (so far) not having heard a note of Taylor Swift. Not through avoiding them or anything, just through not seeking them out. So... I dunno. Maybe that's because I live in Korea and this place is *weird*, man.
Anyway, one of the great things (and don't let them gaslight you, there are a lot of them) about getting old is that even music that you burnt out on way back when can sound fresh to old ears, and be exciting all over again. That's a gift for a music lover, friends. A gift!
