What is the Minimum Amount of Joystick Inputs Required to Beat Super Mario Odyssey?

In Super Mario Odyssey the left joystick is mainly used to move Mario, but do we really need the joystick to move through the game? Is the left joystick really required to beat Super Mario Odyssey? Or is it possible to make it through the whole game, without the option to walk at all?
