After its formation in 1933 Cricket Club of India (CCI) chose Mumbai to built cricket stadium that would be Lord's of India. Stadium was named after Lord Brabourne, then governor who helped to acquire land from Bombay Reclamation Scheme. In 1970's tussle between BCA and MCA led to creation of another stadium in Mumbai. After being insulted by Vijay Merchant, stubborn Sheshrao Wankhede built bigger and beautiful stadium just 500 meters away from Brabourne and that too in 13 months.
