Dr Rebecca Sta Maria's presentation is two-part.
The first half is an update on developments since her last engagement at RIETI in March 2022. Dr Rebecca will recap outcomes from APEC 2022 and 2023, highlighting the 2022 Bangkok Goals on Bio-Circular-Green Economy and the 2023 San Francisco Principles on Integrating Inclusivity and Sustainability into Trade and Investment Policy. She will then focus on this year’s host, Peru, sharing Peru’s priorities, where we are at and what to expect for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November 2024.
The second part covers the factors which make APEC essential to economic cooperation in the region. In 2023, the APEC Secretariat conducted a perception survey across APEC member economies to understand relevant public opinion. Uncovering trends established by benchmarks during the initial survey in 2020, the survey in 2023 focuses on perceptions of the role of multilateral cooperation in parallel with the three economic drivers of APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040. Findings specific to Japan will be shared.
