Trolling is the most widespread pelagic fishing method in the Pacific. Since the introduction of motorboats, its popularity has escalated. With trolling, artificial lures or natural baits are trailed through the water behind a moving boat. There are many types of lures: skirted lures, diving lures, spoons, and natural baits and there are many variations on how they are rigged for trolling. Lures and natural baits can be trolled near the surface or below the surface, by using weights or diving devices.
