If you need to enable shadow copies or previous versions in Windows so you can restore or open older versions of your files, then you can do so with a few simple steps. Then you can have the process run on a schedule as needed. You can configure shadow copies using the Windows Task Scheduler and run it as needed.

When setting up the task, be sure to go to the Actions tab and for the Action set it to Start a program. Then for Program/script, type in wmic. Then for the Add arguments box type in shadowcopy call create Volume=C:\ assuming you are setting this up for your C drive.
