Track three, 'The Doc's' rendition of Kris Kristofferson's Nobody Wins, taken from John Doc's EP 'At Hasties Farm', released in 1979. To my ears, this is Doc at his very best and I'd argue that it is the definitive version of the song. Tremendous.
In memory of Robert McCallum Reynolds and David King Taylor Shanks.

Like a good wine, classic songs such as the ones on this record, sung by a vocalist as good as John Doc can only mature with age.
John’s career started more than 10 years ago when he first appeared on resident vocalist at Hasties Farm in Blantyre – a popular entertainment venue which until the early 60’s had been a working farm. After a spell of about six years there, John moved to The Carousel in Motherwell.
In the Summer of 1979, Hasties Farm had just been taken over by it’s present owners Sam and Graham, who were well aware of John’s talent and it was not long before he made his welcomed return to the Farm to appear regularly five nights a week.
John Doc can now be seen and heard live from Wednesdays to Sundays in the relaxed dine and dance atmosphere of Hasties where crowds, from couples to coachloads, flock to hear his excellent voice. He is one of the few Scottish singers who prefer the beauty and simplicity of an acoustic piano – no purring monotonous organ to be seen at Hasties – or heard on this record. Without doubt it is the piano, and his accomplished playing, which also enables him to back amateur singers at the Farm in the most professional way possible.
This is John’s third record, having already released two LP albums. One thing is certain – in no way will it be his last!

Its singalong time down on the farm...
There aren't many places left where you can go for a night out, really let your hair down, and have a marvelous time.
Most places seem to be aiming for a sophisticated air now-a days, but not Hastie's Farm, Blantyre.
Hastie's which first opened its doors as licensed premises in 1967, has achieved a reputation of being a showplace for amateur talent, an image which the two imaginative new owners plan to further.
Sam Plotnikoff and Graham Gordon took over the bar/restaurant complex five weeks ago and are full of enthusiasm for its future. Said Sam: "The atmosphere we're determined to create is casual, informal, and relaxed. It's not a dinner dance, and we don't have a cocktail bar," he stressed.
Graham added: "When we took over, there was a long list of exotic drinks at the bar, some of which weren't asked for more than once a year. We pruned that and, apart from the usual drinker, we only have six or seven "specials."
One of the first moves the new owners made was to approach John Doc, the well-known Lanarkshire musician, and lure him and his trio back to Hastie's, a move that is proving very popular.
John Doc plays at Hastie's from Wednesday to Sundays, and on some of these evenings there is dancing. Monday is a quiet night down at the Farm, with the bar open for customers.
