Hertz Car Rental is up 800%: Is it a Buy | Why are People Excited to Buy a Bankrupt Car Rental Co?

Hertz Car Rental company is up 800%! Recently, Hertz Car Rental has declared bankruptcy. People are taking a huge risk by buying a stock that is bankrupt since stockholders are the last in line to be paid in a bankruptcy proceeding.

Why is Hertz going up so much?


1)It is rather common for a company that is doing very badly to have a huge spike on the decline because "bargain hunters" think that the stock is now cheap.

2) Further, some people might be trying to engineer a short squeeze to force the stock to move up.

3) Also, some people are just momentum chasers and see that it is going up and just want to chase it for the moment.

My own advice is try to use your mind and focus on stocks that are high quality, aren't penny stocks, are quite profitable, and have some barrier to entry. You should also consider reading Investor's Business Daily to get some ideas on which stocks might be worth buying.
