Major Lucy Anderson of the Royal Logistics Corp stands in Camp Bastion surrounded by a sea of shipping containers. Each is waiting to be packed full of British military equipment, and transported back home. 2,734 containers have already been shipped back, but there is much more still to come.
Elsewhere on the base troops busy themselves preparing Warrior and Mastiff armoured vehicles for transportation. Each must receive a thorough wash before being allowed back on to UK soil.
"We've got about 3,400 vehicles and main equipment to go back, of which so far we've re-deployed about 1,753, so we're about half way their," says Major Anderson.
The work of Major Anderson and her troops marks the end of British forces eight years of command in Helmand Province, scene of some of the bloodiest fighting of the Afghan campaign.
