Obesity is now a worldwide epidemic with enormous health and economic consequences, increasing the risk of diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, fatty liver and cancer. What accounts for the rising rates of obesity and associated illnesses? How much of these conditions are attributable to genetics, food, lifestyle, aging, and gender?

Penn endocrinologist Rexford Ahima reviews the latest research on the causes of obesity and its significance for human health.
