Rhinoplasty or nose surgery or nose job is a cosmetic surgery to correct any birth or traumatic deformity and to reshape the nose. In this video Dr Jayanta Bain shows before and after surgery photo of 4 patients did rhinoplasty by him.

1. What are the indications for Rhinoplasty or Nose Job?
A visible bump on the bridge nose is one of the most frequent complain, and seek its removal. Some patient can complain of an enlarged, drooping or hooked tip; whether as some may complain of a round, bulbous or depressed tip. Some patient complains of depressed because of poor vertical height. Some patient may complain of a big / broad nose.

2. What is the minimum age for Nose Job? My age is 18 now can I go for Rhinoplasty?
The growth of nasal bone and cartilage completes by 16-18 years of age, so till this age one should wait; after this, there is no age restriction to go for rhinoplasty.

3. Is the procedure painful? Which anesthesia you used?
No. The surgery is done under local or general anesthesia, so patient does not feel any pain during surgery. After surgery, patient may feel mild to moderate pain, which is controlled by pain killer medicines.

4. How much time I have to stay in the hospital?
Rhinoplasty is done as a day care procedure, so you will be discharged 4-6 hour after surgery in the same day. However, if complex surgery is done, then patient may be kept admitted overnight.

5.How many days it will take to recovery?
It takes about 7-10 days for recovery. Patients are discharged with nasal pack and external nasal splint. Nasal packs are removed after 3 days; splint and stitches are removed after 7 days; and patients are also prescribed to take oral medicine at home during this time period. Patients are asked to avoid strenuous activity like heavy lifting, gym next 4 weeks.

6. What are the complications? in there any side effects of Rhinoplasty?
Mild to moderate swelling around nose and eyes is very common; it can last up to two weeks. Bruising can be seen around nose & eyes, especially if osteotomy is done. It gradually fades by 2-4 weeks.

7. Can my breathing problem also get treated by rhinoplasty?
Yes. If the breathing problem is caused due to deviated nasal septum (DNS), then, by doing septo-rhinoplasty the breathing problem can be solved.
