One of the most iconic films, with one of the most recognizable characters in cinema, Forrest Gump was released along with other heavyweights such as Pulp Fiction, The Shawshank Redemption and León: The Professional. We follow the story of Forrest Gump, a man born with a slight intellectual disability who is a witness and part of several historical events of the 50's, 60's and 70's in the United States. Critical and turubulent years for the country, all this from the innocent perspective of a person who is not able to understand the implications of what he is witnessing. Forrest Gump has different points of discussion, such as the love and heartbreak story between Forrest and Jenny, the political activism of the time or the racism in the United States, but there is a very recurring point throughout the entire film and that is born from the so famous coute. This raises the question of: what does the future hold for us? And the two possible answers that we are given are destiny and luck. Of course, luck must be understood as those facts that do not depend on us but that affect us, we could also understand it as chance. All the main characters have a relationship with destiny and luck, some characters embrace the former and others the latter. Sometimes this is very clear, but sometimes not. It may seem that the film gives us mixed messages of whether we all have a destiny or if on the contrary our future is cast to chance. To clarify this question, we will immerse ourselves in the stories of each character, the relationships they have between them and the great influence that Forrest's innocent perspective has on the film. A spoiler alert is deserved because today we are going to analyze Forrest Gump.
