OC DMG Backlight OSD - Game Boy IPS Kit (RIPS v4)

Описание к видео OC DMG Backlight OSD - Game Boy IPS Kit (RIPS v4)

The 'one chip' manufacturer is back again with yet another RIPS revision. They are calling the fourth iteration of this kit "DMG Backlight OSD" and they have started using another LCD again. The LCD used in this kit the same LCD as used in the DMG 'RetroPixel' Backlight kit from Funnyplaying, the BlackBerry Q5 LCD so any brackets or shells made for that should work with this kit as well. THey are still using a thicker rotary encoder though so any "IPS Ready" shells that may or may not be coming soon may still need a trim for that. Otherwise, the install is largely the same as the Funnyplaying version.

Compared to the Funnyplaying kit, this new kit offers some major improvements. There are much fewer preset color palettes but there is also a fully featured palette creator built into the kit. Using this on screen display (OSD), you can overwrite the built in palettes with custom ones that you make set to whatever colors you want. There is also a feature to allow you to move the image on the screen around in case your LCD is not perfectly centered in your shell. Unfortunately, you still need to get the LCD perfectly level to get the most of this functionality.

So, my verdict? As of this video, I think this is the best kit for DMG available right now. I still think the Moon Screen kit is a viable alternative since it drops right in to a stock DMG shell with no modification necessary and is what most of the features of this kit are based off of. As long as you don't mind getting a little intimate with a craft knife, this kit seems to be the way to go though.

Confused/intimidated by the sheer number of backlight kits now? I don’t blame you. I had to create an image based guide just to keep everything straight myself. There’s a new section of the wiki that has a more subjective look at all the different kits: https://gameboy.github.io/wiki/backli...
