Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia’s gross domestic product grew by 1% in 2025, with cumulative growth of 9.7% over the past three years — a figure he said significantly outpaces economic growth in Europe. He made the remarks during the combined Direct Line Q&A session and year-end press conference titled “Results of the Year.”

“What has happened in our economy over the past year? GDP growth stands at 1%. But if we look at the most recent three-year period — which is also a perfectly valid way of calculating it — overall growth amounts to 9.7%. Over the same period, growth in the eurozone was 3.1%,” Putin said.

He also argued that closer economic cooperation with Europe could significantly alter global economic rankings. “Had we joined our efforts with the European countries, our combined GDP in purchasing power parity terms would surpass that of the United States,” Putin said.
