When a behavior no longer receives positive reinforcement, suddenly unusual behaviors emerge during the extinction burst. This is called extinction induced variation in responding. It's important for teachers & parents to know that they must NOT respond to those new behaviors either and eventually the extinction burst will end and the desired effects will be achieved.
