Welcome to the Woodlands Museum, a place where history comes to life. Today, we invite you on a journey through time as we explore the museum's remarkable collections housed in seven distinct buildings. Each structure tells a unique story, preserving the past for generations to come.
Our first stop is Saint Luke's Anglican Church from Poplar Heights, a testament to the rich history of this community. Built in 1910, this beautiful church was generously donated to the museum in 1982. Today, it still echoes with occasional worship services, keeping its spiritual heritage alive.
Next, we visit the Little Argyle School, fondly known as our main building as it's where we welcome our guests. It's a single-room school that served the Saint Oswald District from 1881 to 1964. This historic structure was the cornerstone of our museum when it opened in 1970. Inside, you'll find captivating exhibits like children's displays, doll collections, antique lamps, quilts, and more.
Our journey continues with the Log House. The original log house was built in 1889, and was generously donated to the museum in 1974. After the original log home required closure in 2016, this replica was opened in 2018, preserving the heritage of the local area settlers. This charming log cabin holds a treasure trove of pioneer artifacts.
Now, let's explore the Graysfield School, which operated from 1913 to 1967. Moved to the museum in 1975, it houses a one-room classroom exhibit, early clothing displays, antique clocks, radios, and even a button that's over 400 years old. A small chapel within tells the tragic story of the Taylor family.
Our fifth stop takes us to the Metal Shed, a vital addition built in 1979. Inside, you'll find an incredible collection of tools, implements, an old fire truck, a covered wagon, washing machines, and more. It's a testament to the industrial and agricultural history of our region. Step into the Gallery, our sixth building, named for its eclectic collections. Here, you'll discover displays ranging from a doctor's office to a general store. This building, the second addition to our museum, proudly showcases natural history, sports, and so much more.
Finally, we invite you to explore the John Walsh Mission Trail Bottle Cabin, our newest addition, which opened in 2022. Inside, you'll find an incredible assortment spanning decades of collections. It's so much more than "99 bottles on the wall"; it's a journey through time and a testament to our commitment to preserving history. The Woodlands Museum is more than just a collection of buildings; it represents our area and the rich history of our local communities. We invite you to come and immerse yourself in the past, where each building tells a unique story, and every artifact preserves a piece of our heritage.
Visit us today and experience history like never before at the Woodlands Museum - where collections evolve over time.
