This is a repair of a Kenwood TS 520 S that I picked up at a ham fest in a swap. Of course I was assured that it was working and it was not. The symptom was no output. Two issues were discovered the first was a faulty output meter sensing circuit. A couple resistor is fried which took out a diode and the meter in the RF position was nonfunctional. Upon fixing that I was still stuck with just five watch output and discovered a shorted capacitor across the load variable capacitor Control. Replacing this capacitor the radio came to life. With new finals I’m seeing 105-110w output- right on spec.
