Human Rights in Argentina

Course Description
This 3-credit course enables students to deepen and expand their understandings of human rights through a two-week immersion experience in La Plata, Argentina over Winter Break. In collaboration with the Comisión Provincial por la Memoria (the Commission for Memory, CPM), our institutional host in Argentina, students will engage with a range of community organizations, activist groups, and cultural brokers working to expand the horizon of human rights work in postdictatorship Argentina. William & Mary has a long history of working with the CPM, which hosts our sponsored semester program in La Plata. In this short-term program, participants visit sites of memory, museums, and activist collectives to explore the reverberating legacies of state-sponsored violence; engage with historical actors on the front lines of transitional justice initiatives today; and meet with leading human rights figures working towards a more just future for all.
