For decades camera makers had a pipeline for customer growth from simple cameras to more complex. Some number of customers would make their way up the pipeline into ever-better, ever-more-expensive models and this allowed the camera makers to develop a loyal customer base and future sales. That pipeline still exists today in some ways but the fundamentals of it have changed. I see the pipeline now as being from cell phones to an entry-tier or used interchangeable-lens camera and then to something newer or brand new. But the entry point is the cell phone now, period.

For some Incredibly high percentage of photographers, a cell phone will be more than enough to keep them happy for their lives. But for others, a better camera will eventually become a necessity. With cell phones selling approximately 1.5 billion new units each year, there is a large pipeline of cell phone photographers who could decide to upgrade to stand-alone cameras. Even if 0.5% of cell phone buyers each year decide they want to upgrade to a digital camera, that's about 7.5 million potential new camera users each year. Cell phone photography is here today. The desire to be a better photographer with a better camera is here to stay. The future of stand-alone cameras is bright barring any catastorphically dumb economic policy shifts.

Carajillo Recipe:
8oz (240ml) cold-brew coffee
1.5oz (45ml) Liquor 43
Top the mug with ice

Vanilla Cold Foam Carajillo:
8oz (240ml) cold-brew coffee
1.5oz (45ml) Liquor 43
1oz (30ml) vanilla syrup or extract
1oz (30ml) coffee liquor, preferably an espresso liquor
Half and half or whole milk to taste
1oz (30ml) half and half, ideally, cold frothed and poured onto the cocktail
Top with ground cinnamon
