India has created history by breaking a 29-year record as its gold reserves have crossed the $100 billion mark for the first time ever.
With this achievement, the Reserve Bank of India has officially become one of the world’s top gold-holding central banks — giving a new shine to the Indian economy.

According to the latest RBI data, India’s total forex reserves now stand at $698 billion, with gold accounting for a record share — signalling India’s growing financial strength amid global economic uncertainty.

Reports suggest India now holds over 34,600 tonnes of gold, and the value of the nation’s hidden gold wealth has surged to $3.8 trillion after a 62% rally in 2025, as per Morgan Stanley.
This makes India the largest holder of gold assets globally, surpassing several Western economies.

IMF has also praised India’s strong economic fundamentals, calling it Asia’s brightest growth spot — and emphasized that open trade and financial diversification will be key for India’s continued rise.
