The wait of nearly 100 years has finally ended for hundreds of families in Mumbai’s iconic BDD Chawls. Recently, 556 families from Worli BDD Chawl received the keys to their brand-new 2BHK flats with modern amenities — a huge upgrade from their old 160 sq. ft. single-room tenements with shared toilets.
The BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project, first initiated in 2017 by Devendra Fadnavis, covers 92 acres across Worli, Lower Parel, and Naigaon and will benefit more than 15,500 tenants. Now back as Chief Minister, Fadnavis has overseen the first handovers in Worli, with MHADA expected to deliver 3,000 more homes by year-end.
