San Diego surf doesn’t usually deliver barrels like this.
But this summer, it did—and we were there for it. Unforgettable Summer Swells captures a rare run of clean conditions, proper sandbars, and back-to-back sessions of hollow surf that reminded us why this coastline has such a deep place in California surf history.

This channel started from a simple goal: document San Diego when it’s on. No fluff. No hype. Just a passion for filming those rare windows when the right swell hits the right spot—and the city shows what it’s capable of.

The same XXL swell that lit up Teahupoʻo, Puerto Escondido, and the North Shore of Oʻahu eventually made its way to Southern California—and San Diego held its own. While not known for consistent big wave surf, certain spots here come alive when long-period south swell energy reaches the coast. Surfline had eyes on this one for weeks as it moved from Playa Zicatela to Maui’s South Shore, and the timing delivered: peaky beach breaks, clean winds, and real power. After watching the WSL crew pack bombs at Teahupoʻo, we scored our own version—shorter windows, smaller drops, and plenty of barrels.

SoCal Surfer began with a passion for documenting historic days—those fleeting sessions when San Diego’s coastline comes to life in a way only locals truly understand. This channel is our way of honoring those moments, preserving them, and sharing them with surfers who feel the same pull.
