I had read an article near the turn of the millennium concerning computer generated images. The author had predicted that computer images will take over the art world for a period, but there will be a period when artisans who paint, draw, create, by freehand, will again become appreciated. This was long before Artificial Intelligence, AI, and thus far his predictions have been fairly accurate.
I have watched several channels, @bobbicatalano and @MaidensWorldOfWax, who have been creating some spectacular images with AI. However, being a visual person for the last four decades, and having sat on several art boards, I still prefer the artisan who draws or paints or creates freehand.
I have selected 15 album covers that were created in the 1970's that were drawn or painted, long before the computer age. Everything had to be done by hand. The biggest technical advancement at the time was the typesetting machine. Copy and Paste meant the graphic artist had to physically cut out stories, words, photos and actually paste them onto a board, or page, and then they were prepared to be published. There was more to it than that, but everything had to be done by hand.
The 15 albums I have presented feature bands such as Atomic Rooster, Babe Ruth, Yes, which displayed the work of English artist Roger Dean, who created over 100 album covers.
Other albums include Genesis, J. Geils Band, The Beatles, Lighthouse, Fleetwood Mac, Derek and the Dominoes, Hot Tuna, Thin Lizzy, Meat Loaf, Procol Harum, Little Feat, and The Grateful Dead.
All these albums featured drawings or paintings on their front covers that were initially created by humans, not a machine.
I would love to hear, read some comments on what other album covers people like, created by humans or machines. Please leave a comment, and subscribe if you so desire. Thank-you for watching, supporting.
