"I was working in the lab with my three other friends. It's an overwhelming week this for us and I was in the middle of working and my friends told me that they received a notification of a shooting incident just one block away from us. So we decided to close all the doors and turn also the lights off and hide under the desks and wait for the next notification."

"I just saw a bunch of cops on my tail just following me and, you know, it really scared me, so I came down here trying to figure out what happened, you know. It's just a whole bunch of nonsense. Just cop car, after cop car, after cop car, you know. I was confused what happened, so I got out of the car and ran down to the scenery or whatever and I saw a person on the ground and it really shocked me. I was asking the Brown University students what happened, and they were telling me that there was an active shooter, but I couldn't, you know, like get any, like I didn't know what the truth was because it was like so hard to believe because like what happens in the Rhode Island, you know. Yeah, you know, it's just a very scary night and I'm praying for everyone out there and hope they are alright."

STORYLINE:
Witnesses on Saturday described their shock after a shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, during final exams on the Ivy League campus killed at least two people and injured nine others.

Police were still searching for the suspect.

One student who was working in a nearby lab when the incident occurred said he and his friends hid under a table after getting a notification about an active shooter on the premises.

"My friends told me that they received a notification of a shooting incident just one block away from us," student, Chiangheng Chien, told The Associated Press.

"So we decided to close all the doors and turn also the lights off and hide under the desks and wait for the next notification."

One witness, Jiv Daya, said he was out getting matcha when several police cars drove by as they responded to the shooting.

Daya said he was confused by what was going on and after speaking to students at the university found out there was an active shooter.

"It's just a very scary night and I'm praying for everyone out there and hope they are alright."

Officers scattered across the campus and into an affluent neighborhood filled with historic and stately brick homes, searching academic buildings, backyards and porches for hours after the shooting.

The suspect was a male in dark clothing who was last seen leaving the engineering building where the attack happened, said Timothy O’Hara, Deputy Chief of Police.

The shooting occurred in the Barus & Holley building, a seven-story complex that houses the School of Engineering and physics department.

According to the university’s website, the building includes more than 100 laboratories, dozens of classrooms and offices.

Engineering design exams were underway there when the shooting occurred.
