The Hurricane created a storm surge that covered all of Estero Island washing out many homes and buildings in its path. When the island was opened to residents and property owners, we made a trip out to access the condition of the house and begin clean-up and preservation efforts. Ocean water was up at least 7 feet high on the exterior of the house and the entire first floor was a loss. The second floor was a mess with significant ceiling damage and debris. All said the house was still standing and in relatively good condition compared to the majority of structures on the island.

We also had a chance to talk to our friend/neighbor "Jammin Sam" who had a crazy survival story. He was in one of his houses on Fort Myers Beach when the hurricane came through. He was nearly trapped in his house as the water level approached the top of his exterior doors. He was able to get out and had to tie himself to a beam and wait out the storm in the ocean surge.
