How To: Defeat Chen Gong before he reaches your maincamp

Method: When Lu Bu appears Chen Gong will attack your main camp almost straight away, He's programmed to go there even before all his dialogue is completed. So you need to be quick. Thankfully he appears in the bottom left and has to go north and then back down to the bottom right, so it's quite the route for him. Basically as soon as Lu Bu appears head to the garrison Zhang Fei was in or anywhere in the route he's going to take (he will stop if you attack him)
