Infusing Culturally Relevant Pedagogy in Campus Equity Plans

As part of the Illinois Higher Education Strategic Plan, community colleges across the state are required to implement equity plans and practices to close gaps in enrollment, retention, and completion. In this presentation, we consider the role of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP) in supporting equity planning around curriculum development and classroom teaching. By centering intersectional identities and experiences, CRP is a proven approach to fostering academic success and interpersonal sense of belonging, particularly among students from minoritized backgrounds. This presentation will review the key components of CRP, the perceived challenges of implementation in CTE and Adult Education, and foster a collaborative dialogue among participants on infusing CRP in Equity Planning.
