Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, and former NBA player/assistant coach Damon Jones were arrested Thursday morning as part of a large FBI gambling investigation involving more than 30 defendants. Both Rozier and Billups have been placed on indefinite leave by the NBA.

Terry Rozier’s case:
Rozier is accused of sharing non-public information—such as his intent to leave games early—with bettors, who then placed large wagers based on that knowledge. Seven NBA games from 2023–24 are under investigation. In one example, Rozier reportedly told acquaintances he would exit early from a March 23, 2023, game, and over $200,000 in bets were placed on his “under” stats.

Chauncey Billups’ case:
Billups is accused of involvement in rigged poker games tied to the Italian mafia (La Cosa Nostra). The FBI says the games used technology like marked cards, rigged shufflers, and X-ray lenses to cheat players. Billups allegedly helped organize these games, with the mafia taking a cut of the profits.

Additionally, Billups may also have shared insider team information with bettors while coaching the Blazers. The indictment references a “Co-Conspirator 8,” who appears to fit his profile, accused of leaking lineup decisions before a March 24, 2023, Blazers-Bulls game.

This marks the second major NBA gambling scandal in two years, following Jontay Porter’s 2024 arrest and lifetime ban.
