In just one week, the aviation world saw two serious near mid-air collisions — one over Burbank, California, and another in Mexico City.

In Burbank, a Southwest Airlines 737 on climbout to Las Vegas abruptly descended after a traffic alert warned of a nearby Hawker Hunter jet. The two aircraft came dangerously close, prompting an FAA investigation.

Just days earlier in Mexico City, a Delta 737 began its takeoff roll only to have an Aeroméxico Connect Embraer land on the same runway, passing just a couple hundred feet overhead. The Delta crew aborted takeoff, narrowly avoiding disaster.
