Описание к видео The Invisible Problem Killing Old Engines: Vacuum Leaks | Worse Than E20! |

What is a Vacuum Leak in a Car?

Many cars (especially petrol engines) use vacuum pressure in the intake manifold to control fuel-air mixture, brakes (brake booster), and sensors.

A vacuum leak means unwanted air enters the intake system, disturbing the air–fuel ratio.

🔹 What Happens if a Car has a Vacuum Leak for a Long Time?

If not fixed, slowly it causes:
Poor Engine Performance
Rough idle, engine stalling.
Hesitation during acceleration.
Check Engine Light (CEL)
ECU detects lean mixture (too much air, less fuel).
Increased Fuel Consumption
ECU tries to compensate → injects more fuel.
Brake Booster Issues
Weak brake pedal (because it works on vacuum).
Engine Damage in Long Run
Lean mixture → overheating → piston/valve damage.
Carbon build-up inside.

🔹 Common Reasons for Vacuum Leaks

Cracked / Aged Vacuum Hoses
Rubber hoses become brittle over time → cracks or splits.
Loose or Disconnected Hoses
Poor fitting or accidental disconnection during servicing.
Damaged Intake Manifold Gasket
Gasket between intake manifold & engine wears out → air leaks in.
Faulty Throttle Body Gasket
Seal around throttle body fails → unmetered air enters.
PCV Valve Issues (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)
PCV valve stuck open or its hose cracked.
Brake Booster Leak
Brake booster diaphragm leaking → air enters through vacuum line.
EGR Valve Stuck Open
Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve not closing fully → vacuum leak path created.
Injector Seal Leak
Rubber O-rings on fuel injectors dry/crack → small vacuum leak.
Cracked Intake Manifold
Plastic manifolds (common in modern cars) can develop hairline cracks.
Aftermarket Modifications
Poorly installed turbo, LPG kit, or performance mods can leave leaks.

🔹 Signs You Might Have a Vacuum Leak

Hissing sound near engine bay.
Engine RPM fluctuating at idle.
Low power, misfires.
CEL with codes like P0171 (System too Lean).

🔧 How to Repair a Vacuum Leak in a Car

1. Find the Leak First 🕵️‍♂️
Visual check: Look for cracked, loose, or disconnected hoses.
Hissing sound: A continuous “sssshh” noise indicates escaping air.
Spray test: Spray carburetor cleaner / brake cleaner / soapy water around hoses, gaskets, and intake. If engine idle changes → leak found.
Smoke test (professional method): Garage uses smoke machine to detect leaks.

2. Repair Methods 🛠️
Vacuum Hoses
Replace old/cracked hoses with new rubber ones.
Ensure tight fit with clamps if needed.
Intake Manifold Gasket
Remove intake manifold → replace gasket.
Clean surfaces before refitting.
Throttle Body Gasket
Remove throttle body → install new gasket.
PCV Valve / Hose
Replace faulty PCV valve (cheap part).
Check and replace connected hose.
Brake Booster Leak
Replace booster or its vacuum line.
If diaphragm damaged → whole unit replacement.
EGR Valve
Clean stuck valve or replace gasket.
Injector Seals
Replace injector O-rings.
Lightly lubricate new seals before fitting.
Cracked Intake Manifold
Minor crack → temporary epoxy fix (not recommended long term).
Better: replace manifold.

3. Clear Error Codes

After repair, reset ECU (disconnect battery for a few minutes or use OBD2 scanner).

✅ DIY Possible:

Hose replacement, PCV valve, injector seals.
❌ Mechanic Recommended:

Intake manifold, brake booster, throttle body gasket.
