A series of strong storms of gusty winds and rain hit hour area before the Jan 7 storm but the Jan 7 storm was the strongest that caused all this damage to the railroad crossing and several others in the area. A few storms before Jan 7 had rain and winds between 45mph and 50 mph, one had 60mph winds, and the Jan 7 storm that hit at night had 65mph to 72mph winds possibly stronger. It is very unusual for California to get hit with back to back strong storms plus flooding is happening in certain areas.

The storms knocked the light rail system out of service so the SACRT crews removed broken gates off of signals and left them gateless for now until they can fix them plus because the light rail isn't running anyway and the weekly freight doesn't come through until Friday. They also removed the gates as more strong storms with wind were coming and right now its best to remove the gates instead of replacing them to break again over and over. The night of the first half of the video jan 8 a storm came through but not as strong but yes did have strong winds still.

Several trees are down around Sacramento County than I've ever seen before. A number of trees feel over the Sacramento Regional Transit Gold Line tracks also which also stopped the light rail service. Ive never seen a storm come through here that breaks almost every gate at almost every railroad crossing. This crossing is activated in tje first half due to a power outage in the arra as SACRT's early and mid 2000 crossings activate and gates stay down when running off backup power.
