In 2024, National Geographic Pristine Seas, in collaboration with the Papua New Guinea (PNG) government, undertook a significant marine expedition to explore PNG's expansive ocean territories. This initiative aimed to conduct comprehensive scientific research and documentation, with the objective of informing future policy and conservation strategies essential for safeguarding the nation's rich marine biodiversity. The expedition is part of efforts to explore and protect the vital marine environments of Papua New Guinea, which is located in the Coral Triangle, one of the most biodiverse places in the ocean.
