Setting up your billing emails shouldn't break your existing email system. Here's what we learned at JustPaid.
Most businesses worry about messing up their DNS records when integrating new billing software. Valid concern - your primary domain runs marketing campaigns, internal communications, and critical business operations.
The solution is simpler than you think: use subdomains.
Instead of routing everything through your main domain, create something like billing.yourdomain.com. This keeps your billing emails completely separate from your primary domain operations. No interference, no broken systems, no stressed IT teams.
This is actually the industry standard approach for payment processing platforms because it's cleaner and safer.
Here's the process:
Create a subdomain in your DNS provider
Add the SPF records specifically for that subdomain
Configure your billing platform to use billing.yourdomain.com
Keep your main domain untouched
The beauty is you can always roll back if needed. Delete the configuration, and emails default back to the billing platform's domain while you figure things out.
We built JustPaid with this flexibility in mind. Our engineering team provides the exact DNS records you need, and there's always someone on Slack to help you through the setup. No guessing, no breaking things.
Your DNS is sacred. We get it.
